We believe you women already “qualified” to support women in labor.
That is why our certification requirements are simple and straightforward:

-completion of assignments
-Support at least one woman in a live vaginal birth and write a reflection on what you learned.
No lengthy 18 month to years-long certification process.
No obnoxious client/provider-evaluations.
No lengthly essays and extensive book reading list.

Is this an actual recognizable certification? Does it qualify for states licensure requirements for doulas? Or insurance requirements?
Doulas are an unregulated, non-medical birth professionals.
No states require licensure for doulas to attend births and there are no national regulations.
A certification is useful but it is not required to be a doula.
Most doulas do not work with insurance companies, but your clients can submit invoices for reimbursement.
Some hospitals require doulas register with their network and follow certain protocols, but this raises ethical concerns. Doulas should work for YOU not the hospital. Period.
Every doula training organization sets their own requirements. The PFB Doula Mastermind covers all the standards PLUS additional training on running a doula business and the Pain Free Birth Method, etc.

We are not affiliated with any other national doula organization because most require the use of gender inclusive language and regulate their members from using terms like “mother”, “woman”, etc. Also, we do not provide training on “Full Spectrum” doula support, which includes supporting unwanted pregnancy termination. A core tenant of our values is to protect and preserve the life of the innocent and vulnerable. (Note: we do not dictate how doulas choose to serve their clients, but we choose not provide training on this).We do not restrict or dictate what kind of birth doulas can support: hospital, home, birth center, or unassisted/freebirths.
